Crash Games Explained: How Aviator Works and What It Costs

A crash game is a type of multiplier game in which a number is raised until it crashes. Players win by cashing out before it crashes. The game is very popular in Nigeria and other African countries. There are several crypto gaming sites that have variations of this game. The following is a breakdown of a typical round of the crash game, and the house edge in Nigerian Naira (NGN).

  • 99%RTP of BC.Game's Crash, a 1% house edge
  • 97%RTP of Spribe's Aviator
  • 49.5%of BC Crash rounds reach 2x

How crash games work, round by round

A round of Aviator or BC Crash lasts seconds.

  1. Bet before the round starts

There is a short period between rounds during which players can place additional bets. Aviator, for example, allows players to place two bets per round.

  2. The multiplier climbs from 1.00x

All players in a given round play against the same multiplier. In Aviator, the multiplier is represented by a plane, while in BC Crash, it is represented by a line.

  3. Cash out, by hand or automatically

Your win is stake times the multiplier at that moment. An auto cash-out at a target you set removes the risk of a slow tap or a lagging connection.

  4. Or the round crashes

If the multiplier stops before you cash out, the stake is gone. Some rounds crash almost at once.

Crash game odds: your chance at each multiplier

What a fixed RTP means for every cash-out target.

10x9.9%9.7%₦10,000
100x0.99%0.97%₦100,000

The rule is simple: the chance of reaching a multiplier is the RTP divided by that multiplier. BC.Game prints it next to the auto cash-out box, where a 100x target shows "Chance 0.99%". Aviator's column is our arithmetic from Spribe's 97% RTP.

Notice that every row has the same average. Cashing out at 1.5x wins often and pays little; 100x wins rarely and pays a lot. At BC Crash both return ₦990 per ₦1,000 over time, and at Aviator ₦970.

What the crash game house edge costs in naira

100 bets of ₦1,000, on average.

A 1% edge is low for a casino game (compare the edges in our guide to how live casino games work), which is why our BC.Game review calls Crash its best-value game. The catch is speed. Rounds take seconds, so the edge is charged over and over, and a session of small bets adds up to a large amount wagered.

Where you find them: BC.Game runs its own Crash in Classic and Trenball modes. 22Bet puts Aviator and JetX at the top of its phone lobby, and Bets.io lists both in its top row. 1xBet has its own 1xGames crash titles, run on an RNG its terms describe rather than seeds you can check.

Crash game strategy: what doubling up really risks

Your target should be a 2x bet. If you lose a bet, you should double that stake in the next round.

  • 6 misses in a row (about 1 in 54 at Aviator)₦31,500 lost
  • 8 misses in a row (about 1 in 202)₦127,500 lost
  • 10 misses in a row (about 1 in 762)₦511,500 lost

Doubling after a loss, the Martingale, wins ₦500 each time a 2x lands. Eight misses in a row sounds rare, yet over 300 rounds the chance of hitting at least one such streak is about 51%, and it wipes out 255 small wins. Our arithmetic at Aviator's 48.5% chance of reaching 2x.

Every bet will return the same expected value, therefore players should adjust their playstyle to account for losses.

Why no app can know the next crash point.

Line drawing of a small safe with a round dial on the door
  1. The server seed is locked first

In the case of Spribe games, the server will generate a random seed which it will then hash and publish.

  2. Players add their own seeds

Player seeds are combined with the server seed to finalize a round.

  3. The result comes from that hash

The combined seed is hashed with SHA512 and the round result is read from it. Before the round starts, the result does not exist yet.

So an app or Telegram group selling the "next multiplier" is selling nothing. Past results along the top of the screen tell you nothing about the next round. Our provably fair guide lets you check a round yourself, and our guide to fake crypto casinos covers the wider scam pattern.

What the law says

Since a Supreme Court ruling of 22 November 2024, each state licenses gambling within its borders. Crypto is legal and regulated by the SEC. A casino licensed abroad is not licensed by any Nigerian state, and our reviews say which kind each casino is.

Check before you play

Lagos law makes promoting unlicensed gaming an offence, and the Lagos authority publishes a list of operators it calls illegal; none of them appear on this site. Check that playing is lawful where you live. Our guide is crypto gambling legal in Nigeria explains the rules.
